The Story

Play from here [0:34]

For this week, I'm going to be going over the Bose Portable Wireless Speaker. I bought this around three months ago, so it's a fairly recent purchase, but I've had enough time with it to provide you my opinions on it. I do need to make clear at the forefront that I am no tech expert. I don't really have thorough knowledge in terms of tech products. However, I do use quite a lot of tech products in my life to support me with daily things like listening to things and getting things done, so I know somewhat about tech things. In this case, I'm going over the Bose Portable Wireless Speaker. Now, previous to this speaker, I've always owned portable speakers because I usually connect it to my laptop.

The speaker I had prior to this, again, it was a Bose speaker. It was the Bose SoundLink III. It was a really good speaker. It actually lasted me eight years, so it lasted a lengthy period of time. It provided me with a lot of music to listen to. Unfortunately, towards the end, after the eight-year period, it did start to give way. It was having connectivity issues to my laptop, which was a bit of a headache. I did pay close to £400 (prices may change), and I felt that eight years is a good amount of usage for that price. I can't really complain. I could only complain if it lasted only one or two years. It provided me a fair amount of usage.

Exterior

Play from here [2:25]

The first thing I'm going to do is go over the aesthetics of the Bose Portable Wireless Speaker and share my thoughts on it. In terms of the exterior, it has a woven strap, which I think is pretty cool. I think it just makes it so much easier to pick this device up. It's a hefty device, guys. It's not a light device. This woven strap is quite sturdy, and I think it looks quite stylish as well. The whole exterior body of this device is completely matte black. It's all a very dark black color here. It's got like a textured feel here, so it's not like the slippery ones. It's got a nice textured feel. It feels premium. At the top, it has all the buttons. What you have here is your power button, then you have your Bluetooth button.

Usually, when I need it to connect to my laptop, either my laptop will detect it itself and then it will just basically sync up, or sometimes, it doesn't pick up on things, so I just click the appropriate button and then it connects straight away within a few seconds, it's pretty fast. You have the volume down and up button here, and then you have the play and pause button in the center. You also have the microphone button there. I'm not too sure about this button here. I've never really used it. The way I personally use this device, just to let you guys know, is I always connect it to my laptop. That's the only thing. However, if I'm going around the house and listening to music and I just want to take the Bose Portable Wireless Speaker with my mobile, then I'll just connect it to the mobile phone. It's as simple as that.

Play from here [4:36]

The Bose Portable Wireless Speaker is a beautiful device. The heft, it just reminds you that it is something very premium. At the bottom, there's not much to see. There is however a port there to power it up. With a full charge, this usually gives me a couple of days. I do use it a lot, though. I use it throughout the day, so that's pretty reasonable for me. I don't think it's too bad. I've had wireless speakers that are much worse. So, yeah, in terms of aesthetics, I can't fault it. It's a beautiful device. It looks great, and I just like the black effect. The other option you can get in this specific model is a silver color one. It's either silver or white. It's one of those. It's called Luxe Silver.

Specs

Play from here [5:52]

Now that we've gone over the aesthetics pretty much and covered how brilliant the Bose Portable Wireless Speaker is, I just want to go over specific specs that it does offer. I will just go over each one and tell you what I think. It offers the 360 sound. With the speakers that I've owned before, it's got like the face speaker there where the sound is directed at you. If someone was on the side, they're not going to get a very good experience with the sound. With the Bose Portable Wireless Speaker, it is designed in a way that the sound is coming from every angle. If there are people at different parts of the room or if you're sitting in a group, everyone will get the same experience with the sound. The sound will be crystal clear, and that's the thing about this. The sound is actually really beautiful and very clear, nice base, so I can't complain. I can't fault the sound. The sound is really good. Everyone knows that Bose products only offer the best anyway, so I'm not really surprised.

Built-In Voice Control

Play from here [7:06]

The next thing is that the Bose Portable Wireless Speaker has built-in voice control. Now, in terms of this, I've not actually had to test it because I never use this feature. It's not necessary for my needs. But yeah, it has that feature built in, just so you guys are aware of that.

Water-Resistant and Durable

Play from here [7:22]

As for it being water-resistant and having a durable design, the durable part I 100% agree with because the Bose Portable Wireless Speaker does feel extremely durable and well made. I can't question that. In terms of the water-resistant part, I've not had time to throw some water on it, and I don't think I really want to test that part out. But I'm sure if they're saying that it's water-resistant, it's water-resistant. If there's someone out there that would love to test out their Bose speaker and throw some water at it just to see how it's like, then go for it. It's your device.

Battery

Play from here [7:58]

Okay, so the next thing is 12 hours battery life. That's pretty much correct. Like I said, the Bose Portable Wireless Speaker lasts me a few days. Sometimes, in the morning I listen to it, sometimes in the evening, sometimes the middle day, so the intervals I break it up in is every few hours. 12 hours collectively sounds about right. But I haven't taken an accurate measurement in terms of how long it does really last. Is that something you guys want me to do? I'm more than happy to do so.

Connectivity

Play from here [8:34]

Next thing, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. I connect the Bose Portable Wireless Speaker to my laptop by Bluetooth, and yeah, you can use the Wi-Fi method, whichever method is more preferential for you, you should go for that method. As for me, Bluetooth pretty much suffices for my need.

Multiroom Functionality

Play from here [8:53]

Next, multiroom functionality. Yes, because the Bose Portable Wireless Speaker is portable, you can pick it up and take it to any room, hook it up via Bluetooth from Wi-Fi to any device. That's why it makes it so much fantastic, because it's just not like it will sit in one place. It's premium enough to sit in one place and look really stylish, but at the same time, it's really versatile that you can pick it up and take it to another room. You're getting the benefits of both worlds here.

Apple AirPlay 2

Play from here [9:22]

Next, you have Apple AirPlay 2. I've never really used this. I'm not too familiar with this. That's probably the only thing, looking at this overall, that I'm not too sure about. It's not going to be worthwhile for me to discuss that here.

Something I'd like to share

Play from here [9:38]

Just to let you know, I did win the Design Awards 2020, the Red Dot Winner of 2020, which basically just shows you that the Bose Portable Wireless Speaker has been tested by people that are professionals or that have skill in this field, and they feel that in terms of the design, it's pretty up there, so that should give you some confidence in buying it if you're just going for the design thing. If you're looking for something that looks stylish and that will look good sitting on your desk, on the sides, on the shelves, or in another room, this definitely is going to look stylish. It's very different compared to the normal, say, rectangular block design, which just looks pretty simple. It doesn't look anything special. So, yeah, that's definitely something different there.

Summary

Play from here [10:43]

Other than that, there's not much to go through in terms of my experience. The aesthetics, I've told you, I'm a major fan of. The sound quality is very good. The 360 design really does help. If someone else comes, they can listen to the Bose Portable Wireless Speaker on the other end of the room. I've had no connectivity issues. It connects really fast. The voice feature, I haven't tried that yet, so I cannot comment on that. That pretty much sums it up for myself. Do I foresee any issues with this? The only issue I thought I'd mention is for my previous Bose speaker, the wireless connectivity issue, which I'm concerned about if it happens with this one, because it's expensive.

Price

Play from here [11:32]

Note: All prices mentioned here can change.

The original price of the Bose Portable Wireless Speaker is about £329. Yes, it's very expensive, but I just feel it's extremely worth it for what you're getting. I'm not a paid sponsor for this specific brand. This is my opinion. Just to let you know, I had purchased this from a friend. One of my friends had purchased this from someone and then when they were about to give it, the other person said that they already have it. So then, I said to my friend, okay, can I buy it off you? She was like, go for it. Instead of selling it to me at £329, I got it for half the price, so less than half the price, £150, because we were good friends. I'm pretty happy with that. That's a good deal on such a nice speaker. It's like you're paying for something that is expensive and £329 is a lot of money. To get it for £150, I can't complain. It's a good price. If you guys want to check out the sale, there is a sale on for this specific Bose speaker, so it's reduced from £329 to £289. Unfortunately, it's not as good as the deal I got, but nonetheless, it's a discount, isn't it?

Wrapping things up

Play from here [13:02]

That pretty much provides my views on the Bose Portable Wireless Speaker. I might just put something on for you, so you can hear it. Let me see if I can connect this device because I haven't synced this. Usually, when I sync it with the phone, I take it right off again because when you switch this on, it gets confused whether it should go for the laptop or the iPhone. That is a tad bit of a headache. To pair it, just click on the sync. I'll play something for you, so you can hear it.

Sound Test

Listen to the test from 14:35 to 14:52.

Feedback on Sound Quality

Play from here [14:54]

As you've heard, the Bose Portable Wireless Speaker has got quite a fair bit of bass. The sound is really clear. The sound is very clear. It's very crispy. It has got a good amount of bass. It's nice to listen to essentially. I've heard speakers that doesn't sound nice at all so, it's not worth it.

Overall Score (9/10)

Play from here [15:36]

If I had to give this a ranking out of 10, I would give it 9 out of 10 because I'm a happy bunny. I love this device, and it's not caused me any issues. It sounds great, and it looks and feels great as well. I would personally highly recommend it. Whether you go for it, that's your own choice. Whether you got a preference for something else that's a little bit cheaper, that's fine. If you do want me to go over something a bit cheaper, I'm more than happy to do so. Please do note it in the comments section, and I will do that.
