Today, I'm going to be doing a really quick video about this Cetaphil Sheer Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50. This is a new product, and it is a 100% mineral sunscreen. I'm going to talk about the price, the ingredients, and the product itself. Then, I will flip to the application clip, which would be a live version of me applying it, talking myself through it, and then, we will wrap it up with my concluding thoughts. If that sounds good to you, then just keep watching.

Price

I recently picked up this product at my local CVS store. It was on sale. I ended up paying $10.99 (prices may change) for it after the discounts and deals, which I feel like is a decent price. You get three fluid ounces of product, which is not a bad amount.

I feel like that's not bad. For being a new product and for being an all mineral sunscreen, I was okay with that price point.

Claims

A little bit of claims about this the Cetaphil Sheer Mineral SPF 50 is that it is a sheer mineral SPF 50. They also do have an SPF 30 available. Claims for the sunscreen states that it's a lightweight 100% mineral active sunscreen designed for daily use on the face and body. This broad spectrum SPF 50 reflects both UVA and UVB rays to help prevent sunburn and decrease the risk of skin cancer and early signs of aging due to sun exposure. The sheer formula was developed with micronized technology to help disperse minerals evenly for easy application and the non-greasy formula will not clog pores or leave behind a white cast.

Ingredients

That sounded like a perfect combination. It's going to be a great sunscreen that is lightweight, with no white cast, and contains mineral formula, which is usually better for sensitive skin as well. Perfect! This also has some other great ingredients in it. It's got antioxidant vitamin E to help protect the skin from surface free radicals. Gentle formulas nourish sensitive skin. It's water-resistant for up to 80 minutes. It's hypoallergenic, it is fragrance-free, and it says that it is clinically tested to be gentle on sensitive skin. So this seemed like a dream come true.

Other Ingredients

Other ingredient callouts from the Cetaphil Sheer Mineral SPF 50 that they don't mention is that it does have three Ceramides in it, which is great. I really like CeraVe products because they have those three Ceramides in them. So this has Ceramide AP, EOP, and NP. This also has some other antioxidants in it. This also has beeswax in it, which is going to be nourishing on the skin and hydrating.

One thing that's very weird about this ingredients list is that the ingredients list on the label are in alphabetical order from A to Z instead of an order of the amount that's in there. So usually the first ingredient is water because most products are mostly abundant with water. So I don't really like that aspect because I have no idea how much of a product is in there. There could be barely any Ceramides, and that's why they're not mentioning it or barely any vitamin E.

Play from here [3:04]

I'm not really sure how much benefit those ingredients are providing me since I don't know how much of those ingredients are in this. So that's a little bit weird, and I don't see that very commonly on other products, so it makes it a little bit hard to compare it.

Testing

With that being said, let's jump into this application clip, which again will be live so you guys can follow along with me. (Testing starts at 3:23)

On my face, it is very lightweight feeling. I'm just going to apply the right amount for one side of my face and go ahead and blend it out. It is crazy white cast already, which again, this product claims it doesn't have a white cast.

Play from here [3:46]

Most mineral sunscreens do, but this one says that it doesn't. It also doesn't really blend into the skin that well. It gets caught up in my beard and facial hair. I'm putting this on at night because I've already used this and absolutely hated it. I'm putting it on at night because I know I'm going to wash my face in ten minutes. It did make me break out the last time that I applied it too, so not good.

Play from here [4:13]

Continuing on, I can't blend it any further, which leaves that white cast because I can't blend it more. Otherwise, it really UNCLEAR up. One thing I can tell you is that it totally blurs out my pores, but who cares? I have not tried a sunscreen this bad before, and this is new. This is a new formula. How did the Cetaphil Sheer Mineral SPF 50 get passed? How did this get launched? I don't get it.

Play from here [4:42]

Now, I'm going to do the other side just to prove a point here. I'll go ahead and do the same thing. Okay, so I'm blending, and the whiteness just gets so built up, it doesn't blend in at all. I used the same amount of Cetaphil Sheer Mineral as the CVS Health Suncscreen that I love, La Roche-Posay, other mineral or combination sunscreens. I have not had this type of white cast before, and the crazy thing is, it states no white cast. What is this on my face then? If this is not a white cast, then I would hate to see one. This is so bad, you guys. I don't know if the 30 would be better. I'm not going to try it. I'm lost for words.

My Honest Opinion

Play from here [5:44]

Don't pick this up. Don't buy it. If it's on your list to check out and try, walk right past it. This is not good. The only thing that's good about this. I'll tell you guys and they don't even claim this on the website, but it is very matte. If you use maybe a tiny amount of it, which would not get you SPF 50 and you're oily, you might like this, and you don't have facial hair because it does UNCLEAR up. It's just horrific.

Wrapping Up

Play from here [6:15]

Wrapping it up, this does not live up to its claims. It has an intense white cast. It doesn't blend into the skin well. It dries very matte. In the ingredients, it claims that it is nourishing and hydrating. I really just don't notice that.

Play from here [6:33]

Am I going to run back and return this product? No, because like it says face and body, I think for the body, maybe this can blend out better where I have less skin texture. I don't have hair on my body like stubble and stuff like that. It just really gets caught up in a lot of those areas, which is common for mineral formulas. It's nothing that is exclusive to this product, but it is definitely quite annoying.

Play from here [6:58]

If I were you guys and you are seeing the Cetaphil Sheer Mineral SPF 50 in your store with "new" on it and you want to jump into it and test it out, I would totally say pass. There are others that are more affordable and better in the drugstore. And if you do want an all-mineral sunscreen formula, I think one that's kind of similar to this one, but leaves way less of a white cast and blends and UNCLEAR is the La Roche-Posay Anthelios Mineral 50. I really like that one. That, like this, is very matte, and it is a mineral sunscreen.
