Hello, everyone. My name is Mario So. If you're new here, please make sure to subscribe for content similar to this one. I create review videos, behind-the-scenes in some of my shoots, and video-editing tutorials. If that's something you'd be interested in, please subscribe. If you're ready to subscribed and you came back, thank you again so much for being here. In today's video, I want to talk about a tiny light, the Ninja 300 by Weeylite. It is the same company that makes high-quality budget lenses Viltrox. Thanks Weeylite for sending this along. This video is not sponsored, but they did send me this light to try out and to give it my thoughts.

The Weeylite Ninja 300

The Weeylite Ninja 300 is a very impressive little guy. I'm very impressed by its compact size and the ability to take NP-F batteries. Because of that, I think it makes this a very portable light that you can bring along with any of your shoots outside the studio or outside your home. One of the main features of this light is it's an 80-watt light with daylight color at 5600 Kelvin. It is a very color-accurate light with a Color Rendering Index (CRI) over 95. You're able to control this light wirelessly via a Bluetooth app, and you also have lighting effects, 12 to be exact.

Build Quality

Play from here [1:21]

In terms of build quality, the Weeylite Ninja 300 is very solidly built. It's built with aviation aluminum and very high-quality plastic. You get one knob on the L-shaped bracket for you to adjust the angle of the light. It's not the U-shape type, unlike other lights such as the Ninja 400. You can mount it onto any light stand or C-stand. Overall, I think the build quality is really impressive compared to other lights that I've used in the past, especially at this price point.

Controls

In the back of the Weeylite Ninja 300, you get your DC 18-volt input. You can use the dimmer to dim the light from 1%, all the way to 100%, which is quite bright in my opinion. If you light-press the M button or the Mode button, you're able to access other options such as power as well as your scene, the speed, which is how you play around with the different lighting effects. If you press on the dimmer button, you're able to adjust the speed of this effect, either to be slow, normal, or fast. If you keep going, you press it one more time, you're able to change the scene, and this is the lighting effect.

Right now, the Weeylite Ninja 300 is set to fireworks. I am not actually sure what this is, maybe explosion. It looks like an explosion on the graphic. The next one is light bulb mode. This emulates a fire. If I go to normal or fast, it emulates fire. If you put in an orange gel or something, then you can get that warm tone and simulate that fire. The next one is photo strobes that simulate flashes on a camera. The next one is to simulate a TV. If someone's watching TV, you put it to normal. It's pretty cool. The next one, which is one of the curves that you can set on the app, some lighting curves that you can set on the app.

If you long press the button, you're able to go into your groups and your channels, and there you can set up which group and channel you want your Weeylite Ninja 300 to be at. That way, you can control the different lights at the same time. If you press the Mode button, you can set up not only the channels. You can insert a USB if you want to update the firmware, and you can adjust the fan. You can adjust your fan mode to high, mid, and low, so if you find that the fan is very loud, you can just switch it back to low to prevent it from affecting your audio.

In terms of all the features that this carries, I can say that the Weeylite Ninja 300 is almost like a mini Amaran 100d at a fraction of the cost. The standard package for this light is about $169 (prices may change), but if you want the Bowens Mount Adapter and the battery charger, you'll need to pay closer to $200 (prices may change). The other thing about this light is that although it is compatible to the Bowens Mount, you need to get the Bowens Mount Adapter for this to work with any of your Bowens Mount soft boxes or lighting accessories.

Bowens Mount Adapter

Play from here [4:50]

I'm guessing that they included the Bowens Mount Adapter so that you can put this on your light stand instead of the actual light, because I think the Bowens Mount Adapter will be quite heavy, and if you kept the lights down instead, it would probably be too heavy for the lights stand. Let me try it out. The problem is that the lever makes it very difficult to tighten it, especially because of the Bowens Mount soft box. It hits it, so I can't keep going further without breaking it. That's the design flaw of this Bowens Mount Adapter. It's not really containing the weight, so I would not attach a large soft box to this, but I think it should work with smaller soft boxes. It's just a design flaw, not on the Weeylite Ninja 300 itself, but on the Bowens Mount Adapter, which I think is very important because you need to soften your lights if you want to use this.

Battery Adapter

Play from here [6:10]

One of my favorite parts of the Weeylite Ninja 300 is the dual power supply, the fact that you're able to plug this in via DC input or use batteries, so you're able to bring this outdoors and just bring a bunch of NP-F batteries with you to light your shoot. You have these little threads on the side of the light where you can attach the battery plate, and on the battery plate itself, you get a USB-C adapter, which you can use to plug in a USB-C connection, so you can charge your NP-F batteries. Once you have this, you plug in the cable to the back of the light as the input for the battery.

Play from here [6:47]

As soon as I attach my battery, I'm able to see the percentage of battery that I have left on each of the batteries, so I have 100% on the battery, and let's see if that works, if this would turn on. I'll have to switch this to out first so that this battery pack sends an out battery signal into the end of the light itself. Nope, that doesn't work. I think you need two batteries in order to be able to power the Weeylite Ninja 300 via NP-F batteries. I set it to In, turned it on, 26%, and now it's completely battery powered. I can see the percentage I have left if I were to power this light via these two NP-F batteries. Again, if you want to check the battery level, how much battery juice you have on these batteries, just go to In and you will see that on the LCD display, which is very useful.

Inside the box, you get your power supply and cable, which is quite long. You get a lamp shade, and the Bowens Mount Adapter, which is extra as well. The quality of the Weeylite Ninja 300 is actually quite nice. It's very uniform all throughout and overall very pleasant looking.

Low Fan Noise

Play from here [8:06]

One of the features that we like about the Weeylite Ninja 300 is that it has a very low fan noise. When I was using it, I didn't find the noise to be considerably loud. You have to be within a foot or so of the light to really hear it. If you're using a shotgun mic for your videos, if you're doing interviews, or if you're using a UNCLEAR mic that is probably more than 2ft away from your light, I don't think you should have a problem.

Final Thoughts

Play from here [8:35]

Overall, I am very impressed with the Weeylite Ninja 300. I really like its form factor, its portability, and the fact that I'm able to use NP-F batteries with it. If you're someone who shoots by yourself most of the time or with a very small crew, having smaller gear or gear that doesn't weigh too much is going to come a long way if you're bringing stuff to your shoots because every gram counts when you're shooting by yourself and you're bringing all the stuff yourself to a shoot. I wish that they had included the battery adapter and also the Bowens Mount Adapter with the standard package price, but for about $200 (prices may change), I think this is a very budget-friendly light for all the options that you get. You also even get lighting effects which can be very useful for different creative needs.
